RetroMatteLiquidLipcolor_collection_landing_1600The long-awaited MAC liquid lipsticks launched January 7th across North American MAC stores. I have been eagerly waiting for this collection to launch since I first heard the rumours that MAC was coming out with their own spin on the very popular liquid lipstick trend.

Claudia and I zipped over to our local MAC store, as per our usual MAC launch tradition.

I absolutely love the vibe of this collection. It’s retro, glamorous, and fashionable. It features 15 permanent shades of their brand new, matte liquid lipsticks.

I may not be a huge fan of the excessive summer heat, but I am a huge fan of summer-themed makeup. Warm bronzes, glowing skin, corals, peaches, and pinks. And while sadly the past month hasn’t consisted of much makeup-wearing, my recovery hasn’t stopped me from daydreaming of summer lipsticks!

Here are some of my current favourites:

I waited for this collection impatiently for a few months. Needless to say, on the day of release I called my local MAC store at 10:00am sharp to put some items on hold, as I was in school that day. I am so so glad that I did, because the collection sold out almost completely within a few hours.

Sadly, for some unfortunate reason the collection was not available with the MAC pro discount. Due to my unfortunate university student budget, I had to restrain myself to only getting 3 items. (Really though, MAC. WHY?!? I would have purchased the entire collection if you had let us use our Pro discount!)

The 3 items that I decided I simply couldn’t live without were:

  • “Sin” lipstick: while this is a permanent shade, I have been wanting to add this to my collection and I could not resist the limited edition packaging! Sin is a dark, cool-toned wine colour with a matte finish.
  • “Frank-N-Furter” lipstick: This shade is limited edition. It’s an amplified, vivid, raspberry toned red.

  • “3D Glitter”-this is a chunky, black glitter with a silver holographic effect that appears multi-colored in the light.

As much as I wanted the entire collection, these 3 items were must-haves for me! The lipsticks are such gorgeous colours and are perfect for fall/winter.

The 3D Black glitter is unlike anything I have in my collection, and I’m so excited to come up with different looks using it! A glitter like this works well over top of a powder/cream shadow, but I personally find they work the best if you dampen your brush/applicator with a mixing medium. I like to spray my brush with my Mac Fix + spray, and then dip the brush into the pigment/glitter. This picks up the most product and gives you a thicker, more pigmented application.

What did you think about the collection? What were your favourite items?

Lise Watier Fall Collection

Lise Watier has been one of my absolute favourite cosmetic brands for quite some time now. My mom has loved the brand since I can remember, and growing up I fondly recall looking through her Lise Watier products and falling in love.

When I saw the new Fall 2014 products on display, well, that love flourished even more.

Lise Watier has recently launched some exciting new products for the Fall Season (I know it’s only august, but it’s true what they say about the cosmetic and fashion industries always being a season ahead.)

Now, I’m not exaggerating when I say that it was love at first sight for this collection and I. Naturally I was instantly drawn in by the leopard print packaging (anyone who knows me in person will be aware of my somewhat excessive obsession for leopard/cheetah print.)

The fall launch includes a couple of limited edition items, as well as some new (permanent) 24 Hrs Glam Eyeshadow pencils, a brown Féline Liquid Eyeliner, and Double Definition Automatic Brow Liners.

The Limited Edition Féline Collection includes:

The STUNNING Quatour Féline Eyeshadow Quartet:

This is such an absolutely beautiful palette-richly pigmented, warm-toned colours for a natural to dramatic look! Not to mention the chic leopard packaging. The eyeshadows even have a leopard print texture to them-how completely wonderful is that?!

Féline Velvet Lip Lacquers:

Liquid lipsticks, or “lip lacquers” seem to be a massive beauty trend lately, and Lise Watier took advantage of this brilliantly-these Velvet Lip Lacquers are undoubtedly some of the BEST Lip Lacquers I have tried so far!

These are insanely pigmented and long-wearing, with a velvety matte finish that won’t leave your lips feeling chapped or dry like so many others out there. They’re available in “Rouge”(on the left), and “Nude” (on the right).

“Nude” just might become my new favourite product for that pinky-nude lip!

As for the new (and permanent) fall releases:

Wait, didn’t I JUST do my March favourites post?? How has another month already passed by? I wish I could happily say that I enjoyed April, but unfortunately for me this past month has mostly consisted of studying, and not much else. While I sat in class or read my textbook, the only thing that truly helped me refrain from slamming my head against the desk was knowing that the end was near, and that I would soon be able to return to blogging. I meant to post this much earlier but unfortunately didn’t have the time, so it is a bit rushed!

Skincare favourites:

My skin has been a disaster this past month due to hormones, stress, and trying a bunch of different products (not a great combination for your skin, let me tell you), so I have been desperately trying to get my skin back under control.  My skin broke out quite badly, and I got eczema flareups on my cheeks. So on top of unfortunate pimples, my cheeks were extremely red, itchy, and felt like they were burning. It was not fun. Luckily my 2 skincare favourites this month proved to be absolute saviours!

Rodan + Fields Soothe Sensitive Skin Treatment: I reviewed the Rodan + Fields Soothe skincare regimen a few months ago, and while I liked it, there were so many other products that I wanted to try-so sadly I forgot about it. In my itchy and irritated skin state, I was desperate for relief and frantically searched through the products in my bathroom until I remembered that the Soothe line is specially formulated for sensitive and irritated skin.

I added step 2 to my skin care routine: It’s a sensitive skin treatment in a light cream formula. It helps to immediately reduce the appearance of redness and actually helps heal sensitive skin. I’ve been using this in the morning before my moisturizer, and it has done wonders for my skin. I have virtually no redness anymore, and it even helps my skin to look more awake and luminous. The whole regimen is incredible and I definitely recommend it if you’ve got sensitive skin or suffer from redness.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum: This is essentially a gift from the gods. Seriously. I thought that I was too young to use it, but after talking to a rep from Estée Lauder, she informed me that it’s great for pretty much all ages. I will be doing a full review on this as well as my skincare routine soon. Basically, it helps to repair your skin during the night. I am honestly amazed by how incredible it is and how much my skin has improved in the few weeks that I have been using it. It’s softer, more even, my redness has been significantly reduced, and even my acne scars look smaller.

These two products have been so amazing to my skin. It’s now back under control, my eczema has pretty much disappeared, and my breakouts have pretty much gone away.

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette: I have been itching to get my hands on this palette for quite some time.

This palette is absolutely wonderful. It has 7 shimmer shades, and 7 matte shades, so you can create so many different looks. I personally think this is a holy grail, you can create almost anything with it. If you’re looking to invest in an amazing palette with lots of versatility, this is definitely it. The matte shades are super pigmented and smooth, and blend beautifully. The shimmery shades do have a bit of a protective film on them, so you do need to work them a little bit at first in order to get the truest payoff.

NYX Wonder Pencil: This pencil is amazing and super affordable, as with everything from NYX. It’s meant to be multi use: you can line your lips to create the illusion of fuller lips, you can line your waterline to make your eyes appear brighter, and you can use it as a concealer (that is, if it’s the right shade for you). I have been absolutely obsessed with this as a water-liner. It really brightens your eyes and doesn’t look harsh at all.

Estée Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Mascara: This new mascara is phenomenal! It comes with a more rubberized brush, with long bristles on one side to lengthen and help curl lashes. This, paired with a good lash primer, has majorly improved my lash game!

Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser: I saw Nicole Guerriero talk about this concealer in a video, and immediately had to pick one up. So far, it has become my favourite concealer to brighten and highlight, out of all the drugstore AND high-end products I’ve tried. It’s beautifully creamy and blendable, and doesn’t cake in your pores or creases. The rounded sponge top makes for a great application, but I personally like to blend it out with my beauty blender.  It is a bit more on the creamy side, so I do recommend setting it with a powder for a longer wear.

NYX Butter Gloss: I am OBSESSED with these! They are a thicker gloss with gorgeous pigmentation. They feel like butter on the lips (hence the name), but are not super sticky. They are gloriously moisturizing and are perfect for summer! My current favourite colour is “Maple Blondie” which is a gorgeous pink-toned peach.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush: After hearing so many good reviews, I went out and bought 2. And I am so incredibly glad that I did. They are AMAZING and have quickly become my new favourite blushes. They aren’t quite a powder, nor are they a cream; they’re more of a happy medium. They apply so smoothly and last all day long. My favourite is “Ginger Pop” (on the right).

And last, but definitely not least:

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer: After seeing pictures and reviews of this highlighter, I needed to get my hands on it. For some unfortunate reason, the Balm was being pulled out of many stores in my city, and the difficulty to find it only fuelled my desire for it that much more. I FINALLY found it, and am so happy that I did. It’s a stunning honey-hued highlighter with fine shimmer. It works beautifully as a cheek highlighter as well as an eyeshadow. It is on the pricey side, but you do get quite a lot-plus it’s INSANELY pigmented, you really only need a little at a time, so it will last forever.
