It may still be Summer, but in the beauty industry, it’s officially Fall. Fall makeup collections have started launching, and I could not be happier about it! Fall and winter collections have always been my favourite, as I have an affinity for warm tones, bronzes, and all things Fall.

For Fall 2018, Lise Watier launched the Haute Nature collection – a collection of new, limited edition and permanent launches with a chic safari/nature-inspired vibe.

The new products launched in the collection are:

I was so excited for the lip balms to launch, as shiny, hydrating lip products are always my go-to. On a daily basis, I usually always opt for a natural looking lip product that is moisturizing and comfortable, with some shine. I rarely wear bold or matte lipsticks on a casual basis – I live in Alberta. We are too dehydrated of a climate for matte lips every day!

The Rundown:

What they are: a hydrating lip balm with sheer colour and a high-shine finish

The price: $23 CAD

The shade range: 6 permanent shades, one limited edition (Haute Nature)

These were definitely a “love at first swatch” scenario. They had the exact amount of colour and shine that I was looking for – not a super intense pigment, but a natural, glossy wash of colour.

These are very similar to the new Marc Jacobs Enamored Gloss Sticks that just launched! I love the Marc Jacobs ones, but I prefer the Lise Watier the colour selection from Lise Watier (not to mention the price difference!)

These feel like butter on the lips. They glide on so smoothly and give your lips amazing moisture and shine. You get the hydration and sheerness of a balm, with the gorgeous shine of a gloss. These are the perfect product to keep in your purse and throw on when needed. You can wear them on their own, or layer it over lip liner or lipstick. Wearing this on its own or over lip liner can give you a really gorgeous natural look. Applying it over a lipstick (like a matte lipstick for example) is a great way to add a touch of moisture and shine!

The packaging is really cool – it’s a click to open applicator! The nature-inspired pattern is limited edition, and then they will come in the standard silver Lise Watier packaging.

I’m pretty obsessed with these. “Ice Cream” is definitely my favourite shade, but “Parfait Glace” and “Pink Lemoncello” are close contenders!

Have you tried these? What are your thoughts on them?

One of the most popular trends of the Holiday season is red or berry lips. Something about a bold red lip with gold eyeshadow perfectly represents Christmas. While I do love a bold lip, there’s some irony in the fact that a bold lip is the most popular in a season that is typically the coldest, and the driest for our lips. I don’t know if you’ve tried applying red lipstick to dry, cracked or peeling lips, but it’s not pretty.

The first step in executing a successful bold lip for the holidays is to make sure the lips are prepped before hand. (For a tutorial on how to exfoliate, fix dry lips, and prep the lips, click here!)

There are a million different lip balms on the market, but sadly many do not actually heal the lips. Many can be counterproductive by making lips more dry if you aren’t constantly reapplying them.

Working in cosmetics, I’ve tested my fair share of lip balms and treatments over the last couple of years. So far, these are my absolute favourite in healing and hydrating the lips. I love each one in a different way – after all, if you’re as dry as I am, you can never have enough lip balms.

  • Nuxe Reve De Miel : this is a recent favourite of mine that I decided to try after hearing so many great things about it. While it’s quite a thick wax-like texture, it melts into the lips beautifully. It’s ultra nourishing and smells phenomenal. It’s infused with grapefruit, honey, and shea butter.
  • Korres Lip Butter: This one has a bit of a tint to it, and is a tad more glossy. This is great to keep in your bag for touch ups, or for a some sheer colour and hydration while you’re on the go. It’s also great to keep the lips nourished on those “no makeup” makeup days.
  • Lush Chocolate Whipstick: This lip balm from Lush is natural, and smells like chocolate. It’s also a thicker wax-like texture, and requires a bit of warming up with the finger tips. It’s very hydrating and nourishing, and did I mention it smells like chocolate?! It has amazing ingredients like shea butter, almond oil, beeswax, honey, olive oil, cacao, tangerine and orange oil, oats, cocoa, and vanilla.
  • La Roche Posay Ceralip:  La Roche Posay is a great dermatological-based brand. This product is both fragrance and paraben free, and is phenomenal for treating severely dry or cracked lips. It’s often used after medical treatments, and helps replenish lipids in the skin to maintain moisture and softness.  I actually recommended this to a coworker who was suffering from cracked, bleeding lips, and they looked back to normal within just a couple of days. She couldn’t stop raving about it!
  • Bite Agave Lip Mask : this is probably my favourite out of all for a night time treatment. It’s incredibly thick, and feels like a nourishing barrier on the lips. I don’t really like it for day time use (unless you’re going to be home all day) and it doesn’t wear as well under makeup. However, putting this on at night before bed is a dream come true. I wake up, and my lips are still hydrated and still have this product on them. This is a must have for anyone with very dry, dehydrated lips, or for someone who breathes through their mouth at night.

What are your favourite lip balms?

About a week ago, I saw a commercial for Almay’s new Liquid Lip Balm in which Kate Hudson flirtatiously puckers her lips. Since Almay hasn’t really had much for lip products in the last couple years, I was instantly intrigued. A liquid lip balm you say? What on earth does this mean?

So, I ventured over to London Drugs (for those non-Canadians reading this, it’s one of the main drugstores here in Canada) and was ecstatic to see that they were on sale as a new product.

The colour selection, while not hugely extensive, was gorgeous-10 beautiful shades that could go with pretty much any look. I sampled a few on my hand, and was instantly pleased with how velvety and soft the product felt on my skin. I decided to go with “Cantaloupe Cream”-a really pretty coral/peach colour.

When I got to my car, I quickly put it on, and, well, I fell in love.

I have major OCD when it comes to lip gloss-I cannot stand products that are too goopy or stringy or sticky, which is why I tend to stay away from lip gloss all together.

But let me tell you, I’m pretty convinced that the makeup heavens opened up and released this beautiful product for people like me.

It goes on much like a gloss with a doefoot applicator, but it’s a thicker consistency that is super hydrating and feels absolutely incredible while -get this- not being sticky or goopy. It applies beautifully and did not goop or string or stick or any of the things that many products are notorious for doing. It works gorgeously by itself, or layered over a lipstick. The colour payoff is sheer but still surprisingly pigmented for a lip balm/gloss.

The texture is amazing, the hydration is amazing, and the colour is amazing. EVERYTHING IS JUST AMAZING.

I returned the next day to buy three more colours, two for me, and one for my mother.

The colours I bought were:

  • Cantaloupe Cream
  • Just Plum
  • Blooming
  • Pink Pout

The longer it stays on your lips, the better they feel. Not to mention they smell and taste delicious…not that I tasted them, or anything…

I am honestly in love with this product. And for only $8 regular priced, well you really cannot go wrong. This is one of those drug store products that deserves to be considered high end.

I shall soon be returning to buy more!

Bottom line: if you’re looking for a soft yet gorgeous product for the summer, I absolutely 100% recommend this product.
