H&M recently launched a huge makeup line – in addition to their already massive fashion and home decor line.

Admittedly, I was very skeptical about the quality of the makeup. That is, until I went in to my local H&M to see the collection for myself. As soon as I saw the impressively large eyeshadow display, I was immediately intrigued.

Then when I swatched the first eyeshadow from the High Impact Colour line, I am not ashamed to say that I audibly gasped. (Seriously. I literally gasped.  A girl standing next to me turned to look at me and ask if I was okay.) I mentioned these shadows in my October Favourites, which you can watch here!

The textures: most of the single eyeshadow line has a metallic, shimmery finish. There are also some with more of a satin/matte texture that are great for blending, but I definitely think the shimmers are the stars of the show. The textures are so smooth, creamy and velvety.  One tiny swatch is all you need to see how truly pigmented they are. With a texture like this, I definitely find they apply the best with your finger or a flat brush.

The Colours: the line has nearly every colour you could need. Golds, champagnes, silvers, browns, neutrals, and even a variety of bold colours. They have a whole shelf of blues, greens, purples, pinks, reds, and oranges.

These eyeshadows are phenomenal. I cannot believe how pigmented, smooth, and utterly gorgeous they are – especially since they retail for only $7.99 Canadian – making them the perfect stocking stuffers or gift! That is, if you can resist buying every single shade for yourself!

Here are the shades I simply couldn’t resist adding to my collection:

If you love shimmery, metallic beige/champagne tones, you absolutely need to check out the H&M eyeshadow line. They even have a limited edition set featuring some gorgeous neutral shimmery tones.

My favourite shades so far are:

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of Urban Decay’s most recent palette launch – the Naked Smoky! You can read all about it and see swatches here!

Some of the negative feedback I’ve heard for this palette is usually something along the lines of “It’s great for a smoky eye….but what else can you do with it?” I wanted to create a quick and simple look to showcase that you can do more with this palette than just a dark, smoky eye.

Naked Smoky look 1 -warm

*Update: this palette has sadly recently been discontinued. You can create almost an identical look with the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Palette, the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette,    The Smashbox Full Exposure Mini palette, or really any neutral eyeshadow palette.

A neutral/warm shimmery look is my favourite and go-to, especially when trying out a new product. It adds definition but still highlights the eye.

For this look, I started with blending “Combust” into the crease and below the brow bone as a transition shade. Then I blended “Whiskey” into the outer crease lightly. On the lid, I used my finger to apply “High” over the majority of the lid, meeting up with Whiskey but not really overlapping it. To blend the two shades, I applied “Radar”, starting at the outer corner and blending it inwards. I also added Whiskey to the lower lash line, using the smaller end of the brush to soften and blend. I applied “Thirteen” to the inner corner and the brow bone as a highlight shade. I finished with “Blackmarket” along my lash line to fake eyeliner!

This look is super quick and easy to create, and can be worn for all occasions! You can dress it up with a cat eye and false lashes, or apply less Whiskey to make it softer!

I also created this smoky bronze look, using the same palette! It’s super easy, and you can see a tutorial on it here!
