With Christmas fast approaching, and may going to Christmas parties with friends and family, I wanted to share some of my favourite beauty looks for makeup inspiration!

The holiday season always centers around golds, silvers and reds. You can never go wrong with a good red lip paired with gold eye shadow.
2016 runway trends really showed a shift towards more “natural” makeup with a pop of colour on the lips. Specifically, nearly bare eyes, soft dewy skin, and a red, berry, or burgundy lip.

I absolutely love this trend, because it’s glamorous, festive, yet ridiculously easy.

To master the “bare eye” look, the key is to even out the skin on the eyes. The skin around the eyes is thinner than any other areas of the face, so it tends to show veins, redness, shadows, and discoloration. I love to use a color correcting primer, like the Lise Watier CC eye primer. It evens out my skin, making it look much more bright, awake, and polished. I love to dust a little of a bone colored shadow or a super soft shimmer to highlight over top, for an extra bit of glamour.

Here’s a look I did last year using drugstore makeup! Product details here!

For the skin, I typically recommend a natural or satin finish for a softer, more skin-like look. Highlight is essential, and I recommend a cream as it blends into the skin much more seamlessly. Subtle strobing is a perfect addition to this look. I did a full post on strobing here!

There are so many ways you can customize looks like this. The face and eyes are so versatile and neutral that you can pair it with any lipstick colour!

Holiday makeup is extremely fun, and has endless possibilities. From sparkles, glitter and shimmer, to red lips, warm skin, berry tones, and more. While there’s a lot of modern trends and no shortage of creativity amongst the makeup artistry community season, I do truly love the “classic” holiday look – gold, shimmery eyes, paired with a bold lip. Some think it’s overdone and cliche, but I however think it’s a timeless look. It can be tweaked for all skin tones, ethnicities, and age groups.

For today’s Blogmas post, I’m sharing one of my first holiday-inpsired makeup looks. This is actually the makeup I’m wearing in my Drugstore Favourites & Giveaway video, which will be going up after this for Blogmas Day 15!

My entire makeup look was created with products from the drugstore!

For part 2 of my Holiday Lip Series (you can read part 1 about the best lip balms and treatments here) is all about my current favourite shades and formulas for holiday lipsticks!

When I think of holiday lips, bold reds, berries, and burgundies come to mind. This year, I’m also definitely noticing a lot of purple making its way onto the scene.

Here are my favourite lipsticks for the holiday season this year:

Or I suppose I should say that winter collections are already here – and have been for at least a month now. The cosmetic and fashion industries are always months ahead of the season, and there have been tons of fun new holiday collections.

Working in the cosmetic industry, I tend to notice a pattern of a sort of holiday collection progression- some brands launch their collections more towards the cusp of fall and winter, such as Smashbox and Lise Watier. Smashbox launched their On the Rocks collection, featuring value sets and 2 palettes. Lise Watier launched their gorgeous Aurora Collection at the end of October, which you can read all about here. Other brands, like MAC, launch a few different collections throughout the fall and winter months. They launched their Brooke Shield and Rocky Horror collections in the fall, followed by the Heirloom Mix Holiday colour collection, and of course their gorgeous keepsake kits. They don’t stop there, though, there are more collections to come in the next couple of months! Keep your eyes out for the new Lightness of Being collection, coming in December!

Here are some of my current favourite products from winter/holiday collections!

Benefit Sweet Spot Box O’Blushes:

PicMonkey Collage

This adorable little tin features 5 of their best selling blushes, the “Hoola” bronzer, and a mini Watt’s Up! Highlighter. I had been wanting to try the Benefit blushes for quite some time, and snatched up the last 2 of these sets when I saw them in store! While the blushes are a bit smaller than the individuals, you get 7 cheek products for around the price of 2 individual blushes! Such an amazing value, especially if you’re like me and were wanting to try them all out!

Lise Watier Celestial Light Powder from the “Aurora” winter 2014 collection:

LW Aurora Highlighter

This was definitely a “love at first swatch” deal for me. It is my absolute favourite highlighter at the moment. You can read all about it, along with the rest of the collection here!

Mac Objects of Affection “Rose” Pigments & Glitters: MAC is exceptionally well known for their gorgeous holiday collections, most of which always include stunning limited edition pigment/glitter sets. Me, being  a huge sucker for pigments and glitters, could not resist. This set features 5 gorgeous rose-tones pigments and glitters. From left to right: “Whisper Pink” (soft pinky-beige with a subtle pearlized shimmer), “Tan” (a very popular permanent pigment, it’s a pinky/tan with soft amber tones), “Rose” (a more vidid rose tone with copper sparkle), “Reigning Riches” (a copper glitter), “Heritage Rouge” (a deeper, brown-toned plum)

I purchased one of their glitter/pigment sets last holiday season, and it has easily been one of my favourite purchases from Mac! I highly recommend these sets-it takes forever to use up the pigment, so it’s a really great value.

Guerlain Perles d’Etoiles Meteorites Illumination Pearls from the “A Night at the Opera” holiday collection: Guerlain is famous for their Meteorites-gorgeous powder pearls that illuminate the face. This year’s limited edition Meteorites feature 6 different shades, ranging from bronzes, soft pinks, and a few red pearls.

Smashbox “On the Rocks” Photo Finish Primer Duo

The Smashbox Photo Finish primer has been my favourite for quite some time – not to mention it’s one of the top primers on the market! I am a huge advocate for primers, they really do make a difference in your foundation application and wear! I snatched up this set as soon as we received it in my store. It’s two primers for the price of one: the foundation primer, and the hydrating under eye primer. Not to mention it has pretty limited edition packaging!

Lush Santa’s Lip Scrub: Lush does some of the best – and not to mention delicious – lip scrubs. This holiday lip tastes like cocoa-cola, and helps to exfoliate the lips to leave them soft and smooth.

I can’t wait to see what other holiday goodies this season will have in store! What are some of your favourite holiday products so far?
