Another month, another Morphe Me brush set! July’s Morphe Me Brush Set is nautical themed and features 4 brushes.

I actually opted out of this month’s Morphe package, as it contains brushes with real animal hair. I am now trying to avoid animal hair and stick to synthetic for ethical, cruelty-free reasons. I don’t know if Morphe didn’t get the memo, as they sent this package to me anyway – despite me opting out and not being charged for it. Oh well! Guess that means another review for you guys! I will be giving away the brushes with animal hair to friends or family who need them.

Brush Breakdown:

  • M492 – Duo Foundation (synthetic and sable bristles) – this flat brush has duo fibre bristles and a rounded edge. It’s fluffy enough that it works great for blending liquid products while still allowing you to be precise. A brush like this works great with foundation if you’re wanting to apply a thin or light layer. I love using a brush like this for foundation because it allows you to apply a small amount in a light layer without looking heavy or cakey. This is similar in shape to the G19 that came in January’s brush package.

  • M166 ‑ Oval Shadow (sable bristles)–  this brush is similar in shape to the Mac 217, or other very popular eyeshadow brushes. The M166 however, is flat rather than fluffy. A brush like this is ideal for packing colour onto the lids, as its flat surface picks up eyeshadow and deposits it onto the skin. The Mac 217 in comparison, is fluffier and designed for blending product rather than depositing it. I wouldn’t recommend trying to blend eyeshadow with the M166 – it’s simply too flat to be effective for blending!

  • M579 ‑ Pro Flat Contour (goat bristles) – this brush has a wide, straight-edge tip and is ideal for using with powder products. Natural hair bristles absorb liquid and cream products, which is why it’s much better to use with powder. A shape like this is a must-have for any contour lovers, as it allows you to easily sculpt out and define your cheekbones. However, I feel like Morphe has included quite a few brushes like this in previous months and I definitely don’t need another. It’s similarin shape to the Y12 from June’s package, and nearly identical to the R8 brush.

  • M536 Under Eye Bullet (synthetic bristles)– this is a rounded, tapered blending brush that is perfect for under the eye. It can be used for liquid, cream, or powder products, but I personally think it’s perfect for setting your under eye concealer with powder. This has become my new favourite! I dip this brush into some loose powder (like this one, or this one!

July’s package has some great brushes, but it wasn’t my personal favourite – mostly because 3 of them are made of animal hair. If you like some but not others, Morphe now gives you the option to swap certain brushes before you receive them!

I’m so excited to be sharing the first Morphe Me package of 2018! I’ve been subscribed to this monthly brush package for over a year now, and while I definitely don’t need any more brushes, I just can’t bring myself to cancel the subscription. It’s such a great value, and I’m a serious brush-junkie.

To ring in the new year, this month’s brush package includes 3 different face brushes from the gorgeous Gunmetal collection. These brushes also feature Morphe’s sleek new logo font.

This month’s brushes:

  • G39 Deluxe Foundation: synthetic bristles. This smaller, slightly dense brush offers a unique shape that is neither dense nor fluffy, but a great middle ground.  ideal for blending out foundation and concealer. It’s not round or puffy, but thicker and fluffier than your standard flat paddle-style foundation brush. Flat paddle brushes tend to just wipe foundation on the skin, leaving a streaky finish. The G39 is a much better alternative, as it diffuses liquid products really well, especially if you’re seeking a soft and natural finish! This is my favourite brush from this month’s package.

  • G5 Pointed Powdersynthetic bristles. This fluffy brush has a rounded, tapered end. The fluffiness makes this ideal for powder, but the size and tapered edge mean it can be used all over the face! It’s great for setting concealer under the eyes, setting foundation, or applying blush to the cheeks. I personally love a brush like this to blend away the excess powder used when baking your contour. They’ve launched a few brushes that are similar in shape, however I have none in my collection with this exact size, fluffiness, or tapered top. It initially looks similar to the E3 and the Real Techniques brush, however these 2 are larger, less dense, and not as tapered.

  • G42 1” Flat Contour: this thin brush has a flat top, and is a perfect shape for contouring to sculpt out your features – especially the nose area. Personally, I find a shape like this to be a tad too small and precise for contouring my cheeks, but it works perfectly for the nose. This is the big brother to the G41 (which came in the May 2017 Brush package!) The G41 is tiny compared to this one; the G42 is large, a bit thicker, and has slightly longer bristles. I use a brush like this to contour my nose every day – and this might just become my new favourite!

All of the brushes are extremely soft, and the Gun Metal collection feels very sleek and luxurious. To check out the previous Gun Metal brushes included in the Morphe Me subscription, you can read my review here!

Another new feature Morphe has added is the ability to skip certain brushes from each month and swap them for a different one! You can read more about that here.
