L’Oreal recently launched their newest addition to their foundation range – and a new competitor in the ever-growing Cushion foundation trend.
- Liquid foundation suspended in a cushion compact
- Sheer – medium buildable coverage
- Radiant, dewy, hydrating finish
- Retails for $17-$25 (Canadian)
- Contains 0.5 OZ (approximately 15 ml of product)
Admittedly, I was very sceptical to try this. Working in cosmetics, I became quickly annoyed with every brand coming out with their version of a cushion foundation – the cushion style has its perks, but also its downfalls.
Upon swatching the L’Oreal Cushion, I was immediately impressed by how blendable the texture was. It’s so smooth and lightweight and has a gorgeous healthy finish. It was definitely a love at first use product for me!
After comparing it to the Lancome Miracle Cushion (I applied one on either hand) I can confidently confirm they are almost identical. They look and feel the exact same, and I couldn’t tell which was which (Lancome and L’Oreal actually have a lot of similar products, which makes sense considering Lancome is owned by L’Oreal! If you were wanting to try the Lancome Miracle Cushion, I highly recommend getting the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion instead!
This is truly one of the best foundations I have ever tried. 90% of the time I hate foundations, and always find they look cakey on my textured skin. This is a serious game-changer for me and instantly became my new favourite foundation. If you have dry or textured skin or are looking for a lightweight texture with a healthy finish, this foundation is a must!
The formula is very lightweight and easy to apply. The finish is by far one of the best I’ve ever seen – healthy, radiant, hydrated, and so natural. It’s a “your skin but better” foundation, but can be built to light-medium coverage! It doesn’t accentuate dry patches or texture, doesn’t look cakey or heavy, and leaves the skin with a gorgeous glow. If you are oily, you may not like this foundation as it is rather dewy. However, if you are oily and do like a radiant finish, this will work well with a primer underneath, and set with a powder!
I was sceptical of the cushion applicator at first, but have completely fallen in love with it. Tapping the product into the skin provides a very quick and easy application, and makes it perfect for on the go, busy lifestyles, or touch ups! This is absolutely perfect for travel!
I love to apply it by tapping the product into the skin with the cushion provided, and then blending out with a dampened sponge (I use the Real Techniques sponge). This really helps blend the product into the skin and helps it look even more natural.
Here’s what it looks like on:
My only complaint with this foundation (and this applies to mostly all cushion foundations) is the amount of product you get for the cost. Cushion foundations typically contain about half of the product you’d get from a regular foundation bottle. The average foundation comes with 30ml of product, or 1 oz. Cushion foundations – like this one – contain 0.5 oz, or 15 ml. Considering this foundation is actually more expensive than their existing ones, it sure seems like a poor value.
Now, I understand that cushions can’t contain a full 30 ml, as it would be drowning in foundation which would make it quite messy and inconvenient. However, if it’s going to contain half the amount, meaning it won’t last as long, the price should reflect that. In this regard, I definitely think they seem like a rip off – especially since some of them cost over $40!
Despite that, the formula of this particular cushion foundation is so fantastic I can completely justify it. The pros definitely outweigh the cons!
