Mac recently launched the Electric Cool eyeshadow collection. Mac describes these as “electric-hued pigments” with a “soft, spongy texture”. I consider these to a combination between a pigment and a cream shadow. They’re highly frosted, yet glide on more like a cream shadow. These have been promoted before, and features 16 shades – some re-promoted and some new.
They retail for about $18.50 US, and $22 Canadian. They come in a cute twist-open pot with a glossy finish.
The texture reminds me a bit of the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre eyeshadows, with its cream-like yet spongy texture. They have a really pretty shimmery and sparkly finish, and seem to last very well as far as creasing goes (although I did notice some shades seemed to fade quicker than expected.)
I love these more as a cream shadow or lid color than blending shades – because of the unique texture, sometimes they don’t play well others. Some shades seem to be less pigmented and smooth. Some, like “Coil” are gorgeously rich, smooth, and longwearing. Others came off thinner with more sparkle than full pigmentation, and seem to fade more easily. So It’s not a flaw with the entire range, but just some colors. My biggest problem with these is how they move in the pan – sometimes they seem to shrink or shift and can get damaged simply from being moved. I accidentally dropped one, and the whole product shifted inside the pan. Luckily because of the cream-like texture, they can usually be molded back into place. Despite all that, however the pros outweigh the cons for me because I really do like these shadows.
“In Orbit” for example, is much less rich and pigmented than “Coil.” The winners for me were definitely “Coil” and “Superwatt”. “Coil” is super long-wearing, and remained on my skin even after wiping away all the rest of the swatches! While there were a lot of other gorgeous colours in the line, these were the 4 I couldn’t leave without!Overall, I think these are are really great eyeshadows, and definitely worth a try!
What do you think about the Electric Cool shadows? Hit, or miss?
