April Favourites

Wait, didn’t I JUST do my March favourites post?? How has another month already passed by? I wish I could happily say that I enjoyed April, but unfortunately for me this past month has mostly consisted of studying, and not much else. While I sat in class or read my textbook, the only thing that truly helped me refrain from slamming my head against the desk was knowing that the end was near, and that I would soon be able to return to blogging. I meant to post this much earlier but unfortunately didn’t have the time, so it is a bit rushed!

Skincare favourites:

My skin has been a disaster this past month due to hormones, stress, and trying a bunch of different products (not a great combination for your skin, let me tell you), so I have been desperately trying to get my skin back under control.  My skin broke out quite badly, and I got eczema flareups on my cheeks. So on top of unfortunate pimples, my cheeks were extremely red, itchy, and felt like they were burning. It was not fun. Luckily my 2 skincare favourites this month proved to be absolute saviours!

Rodan + Fields Soothe Sensitive Skin Treatment: I reviewed the Rodan + Fields Soothe skincare regimen a few months ago, and while I liked it, there were so many other products that I wanted to try-so sadly I forgot about it. In my itchy and irritated skin state, I was desperate for relief and frantically searched through the products in my bathroom until I remembered that the Soothe line is specially formulated for sensitive and irritated skin.

I added step 2 to my skin care routine: It’s a sensitive skin treatment in a light cream formula. It helps to immediately reduce the appearance of redness and actually helps heal sensitive skin. I’ve been using this in the morning before my moisturizer, and it has done wonders for my skin. I have virtually no redness anymore, and it even helps my skin to look more awake and luminous. The whole regimen is incredible and I definitely recommend it if you’ve got sensitive skin or suffer from redness.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum: This is essentially a gift from the gods. Seriously. I thought that I was too young to use it, but after talking to a rep from Estée Lauder, she informed me that it’s great for pretty much all ages. I will be doing a full review on this as well as my skincare routine soon. Basically, it helps to repair your skin during the night. I am honestly amazed by how incredible it is and how much my skin has improved in the few weeks that I have been using it. It’s softer, more even, my redness has been significantly reduced, and even my acne scars look smaller.

These two products have been so amazing to my skin. It’s now back under control, my eczema has pretty much disappeared, and my breakouts have pretty much gone away.

Makeup

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette: I have been itching to get my hands on this palette for quite some time.

This palette is absolutely wonderful. It has 7 shimmer shades, and 7 matte shades, so you can create so many different looks. I personally think this is a holy grail, you can create almost anything with it. If you’re looking to invest in an amazing palette with lots of versatility, this is definitely it. The matte shades are super pigmented and smooth, and blend beautifully. The shimmery shades do have a bit of a protective film on them, so you do need to work them a little bit at first in order to get the truest payoff.

NYX Wonder Pencil: This pencil is amazing and super affordable, as with everything from NYX. It’s meant to be multi use: you can line your lips to create the illusion of fuller lips, you can line your waterline to make your eyes appear brighter, and you can use it as a concealer (that is, if it’s the right shade for you). I have been absolutely obsessed with this as a water-liner. It really brightens your eyes and doesn’t look harsh at all.

Estée Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Mascara: This new mascara is phenomenal! It comes with a more rubberized brush, with long bristles on one side to lengthen and help curl lashes. This, paired with a good lash primer, has majorly improved my lash game!

Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser: I saw Nicole Guerriero talk about this concealer in a video, and immediately had to pick one up. So far, it has become my favourite concealer to brighten and highlight, out of all the drugstore AND high-end products I’ve tried. It’s beautifully creamy and blendable, and doesn’t cake in your pores or creases. The rounded sponge top makes for a great application, but I personally like to blend it out with my beauty blender.  It is a bit more on the creamy side, so I do recommend setting it with a powder for a longer wear.

NYX Butter Gloss: I am OBSESSED with these! They are a thicker gloss with gorgeous pigmentation. They feel like butter on the lips (hence the name), but are not super sticky. They are gloriously moisturizing and are perfect for summer! My current favourite colour is “Maple Blondie” which is a gorgeous pink-toned peach.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush: After hearing so many good reviews, I went out and bought 2. And I am so incredibly glad that I did. They are AMAZING and have quickly become my new favourite blushes. They aren’t quite a powder, nor are they a cream; they’re more of a happy medium. They apply so smoothly and last all day long. My favourite is “Ginger Pop” (on the right).

And last, but definitely not least:

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer: After seeing pictures and reviews of this highlighter, I needed to get my hands on it. For some unfortunate reason, the Balm was being pulled out of many stores in my city, and the difficulty to find it only fuelled my desire for it that much more. I FINALLY found it, and am so happy that I did. It’s a stunning honey-hued highlighter with fine shimmer. It works beautifully as a cheek highlighter as well as an eyeshadow. It is on the pricey side, but you do get quite a lot-plus it’s INSANELY pigmented, you really only need a little at a time, so it will last forever.

What were your favourite products in April?
