I recently got the opportunity to try the Soothe Skincare line by a company called Rodan + Fields, so I thought I would put together a review and information post! Beverly, a consultant, contacted me and gave me some great information to learn about and try the products!
About the company: Rodan + Fields is a dermatological company, founded by dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields-who also happen to be the creators of Proactiv Solutions- in 2002. It was initially only available in high-end department stores, but then expanded to include direct selling, through independent business owners and representatives. It’s a similar concept to Avon and Arbonne, in that the products are mainly sold through independent representatives!
The products are based on a philosophy of combining the right medicines and cosmetics to be the most beneficial to skin; they utilize over-the-counter medicines in a safe and effective way that will help your skin without damaging or harming it! A lot of research and expertise goes into making every single product, and it really shows the passion that Dr. Rodan & Fields have for what they do.
They offer a 60-day Satisfaction Guarantee, which is really important for people (like me) who often have problems with allergies or skin-sensitivity!
The Products: They have four main product lines to target the four main areas of concerns:
1. Redefine: Layers cosmetic ingredients and peptide technology (peptides are chains of amino acids that are crucial for building and maintaining proteins in the skin. Collagen is a protein that affects skin aging!) This line helps defend & protect the skin, and reduces the visible signs of aging, like lack of firmness, lack of density, etc. by making the skin more firm and smooth!
2. Reverse: This line helps to reverse the signs of environmental damage, such as brown spots, dullness, and discolouration due to harsh environments and sun-exposure. This line helps to exfoliate, brighten and defend the skin to help it be youthful and radiant!
3. Unblemish: This line is geared towards breakouts and acne, and helps to combat the entire acne cycle, from unclogging pores, clearing breakouts, preventing pimples, blackheads, and post-acne scars, as well as to calm the skin. A cool feature of this line is that they offer two types of toners: a regular Unblemish Clarifying Toner, or an Unblemish Spot Fading Toner to help with inflammation and hyperpigmentation (red/brown marks/scar that appears after a blemish).
4. Soothe: This line is made for people who have sensitive skin, Soothe helps to calm redness that coincides with hyper-sensitivity, rosacea, and eczema. It helps to shield against biological and environmental aggressors, fortifies the skin’s moisture barrier, and calms and reduces redness and inflammation.
They’ve got a handy little tool that helps find the perfect line for your concerns, which you can find here!
After speaking to Beverly and telling her about my skin history with eczema, she thought that the Soothe line would be the best for me to try.
Now on to my review!
Step 1 is a facial wash, of course. The Soothe cleanser is a really gentle cream wash, and it doesn’t lather too much (lots of foam and lather is often not great for dry or sensitized skins!) This face wash is really nice because it helps to break down makeup and impurities-with sensitive skin, less is more.
Step 2 is a cream-textured treatment that helps to instantly calm and soothe the skin. It has lots of natural extracts, like lavender, chamomile flower extract, sunflower seed oil, and honey extract. These ingredients in combination with peptides and lipids help to balance, calm, and restore the skin. It also has micro optics, which is what helps to instantly reduce & neutralize the appearance of redness.
Step 3 is a moderately-rich formula that helps to hydrate the skin without feeling greasy. It is jam-packed with natural oils and fatty acids, as well as omega 3, 6 and 9, and chamomile to calm fragile, sensitive skin.
Step 4 is a sunscreen that has no chemical sunscreens, fragrances, dyes or alcohol. Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the most CRUCIAL aspects of healthy skin.
I used the Soothe line for approximately 3 weeks to get a good feel for how it works and how my skin reacted. None of the products caused any negative reaction whatsoever, and I definitely noticed an improvement in the redness in my cheeks. However, I had gotten my skin relatively under control prior to beginning this line, so my skin really wasn’t as dry or as sensitized as it used to be.
I really wish that I had tried these products a year ago when my facial eczema was at its worst. My skin right now currently doesn’t need a super-sensitive or rich formula, as it’s alternating between dry combination to oily combination. But for those of you with dry, sensitive skin, or those who have eczema or rosacea, this may very well be a godsend for you.
Bottomline: It’s wonderfully gentle and nourishing, and instantly helps reduce redness. I absolutely recommend giving the Soothe line a try if sensitivity and redness or conditions like rosacea and eczema are concerns for you. Now that I know how gentle it is, I will definitely be trying the step 2 treatment on the eczema on my hands! I’ll keep you guys updated on that!
