Back to School Beauty!

So…it’s that time again. Summer has whizzed by, the “Back to School” commercials and sales have begun, and the looming presence of school hovers just beyond the sunshine.

Whether it be high school, college, or university, the back to school season can be both good and bad. I don’t know about anyone else, but I always secretly loved back to school shopping, be it for clothing or school supplies.

Now, I am not personally returning to university this September (I’m taking the year to work on my makeup artistry certification) but having been through over 13 years of school, I’ve learned a thing or two-and, I admit, a lot of things I learned AFTER graduating.

After seeing so many lovely back to school posts on various blogs/youtube accounts, I decided to make a post of my own, including what I personally think are beauty essentials for back to school.

If you’re in high school, chances are that you spend the majority of your day in school-poor lighting, stuffy, hot, etc. None of which are particularly favourable conditions for makeup lovers/wearers. Perhaps you are one of the lucky girls who looks great without any sort of makeup. But let’s be real: in our society, the percentage of this breed of female is dwindling. Beauty is everywhere, and the majority of girls-especially in adolescence-wear some sort of makeup.

Whether you’re the full-face of makeup kind of girl, or are just looking for a lighter look to wear everyday to school, here are some products that I think are must-haves to use for school or to keep in your schoolbag/makeup bag.

Tinted Moisturizer/BB Cream. Everyone wants flawless-looking skin. However, wearing a full coverage foundation all day everyday can be troublesome while you’re at school, and most girls simply don’t have the time to do this each morning. A good tinted moisturizer/BB cream helps give the look of smooth, clear skin, while also helping your skin. With lighter coverage than a foundation, you don’t have to worry about feeling as though you are wearing heavy makeup all day long.

  • Bobbi Brown SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer-$50
  • Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream-$22
  • Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer Broad Spectrum SPF 20-about $10
  • L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream-$12-17

Pressed PowderSome girls prefer to use a loose/translucent powder to set their foundation or tinted moisturizer, which works wonderfully. However, carrying a loose powder with you to touch up any shininess or imperfection may not be the best idea. A pressed powder compact fits perfectly into your makeup bag or school bag, and is a must-have for touching up your makeup throughout the day.

  • Lancôme Dual Finish Powder: This powder is pretty much witchcraft, as it can be used dry to set or touch up and what not, or the sponge can be moistened to give a fuller coverage-$50
  • Milani Multitasker Face Powder-$6

Blush. Blush is, in my opinion, one of the most important products for an everyday look. If you don’t feel like wearing foundation or tinted moisturizer but still want to add some colour or brightness to your face, a glowy blush can do wonders.

  • Mac Mineralized Blush in “Gentle”-this is a personal favourite of mine. It’s a soft pink, with a gentle gold shimmer that looks absolutely stunning on the skin-$25
  • Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso-about $7. This is a fantastic dupe for Mac’s Gentle

Mascara. I am not exaggerating when I say that I pretty much refuse to leave the house without at least mascara. No eyeliner? Sure. No foundation? I can do that. But no mascara? Forget it. I personally think that mascara is one of the most important beauty products out there. It defines your eyes and makes them pop, and-I personally think-adds femininity. If you don’t want to do much to your eyes, but you think they look tired or boring/small, pop on some mascara.

  • DIOR Diorshow Iconic Overcurl-$35
  • Covergirl ClumpCrusher-$10

LinerThis one is optional, I think. Applying eyeliner, be it pencil or gel or liquid everyday can  be extremely tedious and time consuming. During the warmer months I prefer to go easier on the eyes, and focus more on cheeks and lips, particularly at school. If I do feel like playing up my eyes, I’ll lightly line my waterline or smudge eyeshadow on my bottom lash line for a bit more emphasis-it looks much softer than actual liner. If you are the kind of girl who absolutely must wear eyeliner, try to go for a waterproof and long-wearing eyeliner.

  • Lise Watier 24 Hour Glam Liquid Liner-$21
  • L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Liquid Eyeliner-$10
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil-$19-23
  • Nyx Slide-On Pencil-$8.00

Lips Lips Lips. I am obsessed with lip products. Chapsticks, tinted lip balms, glosses, you name it. For school, something that moisturizes while also providing colour is perfect. Lip stains are great for long-wear, but I personally find a lot of them to be drying on my lips after a couple of hours.

  • Revlon Lip Butters: these are absolutely perfect for school. They are super moisturizing while also adding gorgeous yet soft colour to the lips, and they come in so many colours! $7-12
  • L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Balm: I just bought one of these a couple weeks ago, and have been absolutely in love with it. They are super softening, and quite similar to the lip butters except I personally find them to be firmer as opposed to the Lip Butter’s extremely buttery consistency-$7-10
  • Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss: without a doubt one of my absolute favourite kinds of lipgloss. They have so many colours, all of which are absolutely stunning. $7-10

What products are your favourites? Do you have any go-to products that you always use for school?
